The Principle of Ritucharya: Why Seasonal Living Matters
Ayurveda teaches that "like increases like" — the qualities present in the environment accumulate in the body. In spring's heavy, moist qualities, Kapha accumulates. In summer's heat, Pitta builds. In winter's cold and dryness, Vata increases.
Without seasonal adjustments, these accumulated doshas eventually provoke disease. Ritucharya prevents this by prescribing opposite qualities in each season — cooling in summer, warming in winter, lightening in spring. This simple principle of "opposites balance" is the key to year-round health and immunity.
